About Us

The Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source

LNLS operates the only Synchrotron Light Source in Latin America. Designed and built with Brazilian technology, LNLS was inaugurated in 1997 with open facilities to the scientific and business community across the country and abroad.

LNLS facilities are annually used by about 2,700 Brazilian and foreign researchers, committed to over 500 studies that result in approximately 250 articles published in scientific journals. About 20% of these studies are proposed by foreigners. The laboratory also has been a development partner at national industry projects in energy, chemicals and pharmaceuticals areas, among others.
